FF9 Remake? Square Enix Announces Free Addition Sure to Disappoint

Final Fantasy IX's Presence in Another Eden Fan Event Amplifies Remake Speculation

Despite persistent rumors and fan hopes, a Final Fantasy IX remake remains unconfirmed. Sources speculate that if a remake happens, it could be an HD-2D style project, similar to recent Dragon Quest titles. This speculation originates, in part, from an Nvidia leak that also listed Kingdom Hearts 4, a new Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered. The subsequent confirmation of many projects listed in that leak keeps the possibility of a Final Fantasy IX remake alive in the minds of fans, though Square Enix has made no related announcements. Adding fuel to fan theories, Final Fantasy IX content will appear in the mobile game Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space, starting December 4, 2025. The "Memories of Another Sky" event will feature classic sprites, CGI cinematics, playable characters, and in-game activities. Players who pre-register for the event have a chance to win one of 1,000 Final Fantasy IX-themed keychains. While fans interpret this event in various ways, Square Enix has not indicated whether it signifies plans for a full remake.
