Nintendo Will Never Position Itself as a Competitor to PlayStation

Reggie Fils-Aimé emphasizes that if partners have the right tools and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's success in balancing scale and file size is any indication, high-quality AAA games can thrive on the Switch 2, appealing to fans of Resident Evil or Assassin's Creed alike.

Former Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime on Switch 2's Approach to Third-Party Games and Rivalry with PlayStation

In a recent discussion with The Game Business, former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime shared his thoughts on Nintendo's current position, the upcoming Switch 2, third-party support, and how Nintendo stacks up against its competitors. When asked if AAA titles like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty, which previously struggled on Nintendo consoles during his time, could now succeed, Fils-Aime responded affirmatively. He added, however, that Nintendo's strategy isn't to directly compete with PlayStation. While Nintendo would welcome the latest games for core players on their platform, they also want to ensure developers have the tools needed to optimize their games for the Switch 2. Fils-Aime also lauded their hardware development philosophy, noting that they don't prioritize cutting-edge graphics or processors. Instead, they seek a balance that allows the Switch 2 to deliver strong performance. He also mentioned Nintendo is actively collaborating with its partners to help them fully leverage the hardware's capabilities.
