Sony Confirms Start of Live-Action Horizon Zero Dawn Film Production in 2026

Live-Action Horizon Zero Dawn Film with Columbia Pictures Begins Production in 2026 for Theatrical Release in 2027

Sony has announced a live-action film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, with Columbia Pictures—known for producing Uncharted and Gran Turismo films—handling the production. The script for the Horizon movie is complete. While a director has not yet been named, nor has casting for the lead role of Aloy been announced, filming is slated to begin in 2026. A theatrical release is targeted for 2027. Asad Qizilbash confirmed these details, stating, "We've got a Horizon movie in the works with Columbia Pictures. We've got a finished script and are hunting for a director, aiming to start shooting next year and release it in '27." This film project follows the cancellation of Horizon Zero Dawn Netflix shows last year. It is now part of PlayStation Productions' broader strategy, which also includes adaptations for Ghost of Tsushima, Helldivers 2, and the God of War TV series.
