Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Revealed at Anime Expo 2025 A New Independent Series from CD PROJEKT RED TRIGGER
Big news just dropped! At their panel during this year’s Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles, CD PROJEKT RED announced they’ve teamed up again with Studio TRIGGER to create a brand new, standalone anime series in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Fans at the expo also got to watch a livestreamed panel, “Cyberpunk: Mercenaries – Behind the Scenes with its Creators.” The panel featured writer and producer Bartosz Sztybor, voice actors Emi Lo (Lucy Kushinada) and Zach Aguilar (David Martinez), an intro by Joey “The Anime Man” Bizinger, and a special guest appearance by Hiroyuki Imaishi, director of Cyberpunk: Mercenaries. After they chatted about the first anime’s amazing legacy, how it was made, and other cool tidbits, Sztybor dropped the news about CD PROJEKT RED teaming up with Studio TRIGGER again for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. He and Imaishi even showed off the official anime logo and key artwork for the first time. Imaishi also officially passed the torch to Kai Ikarashi (who worked on Cyberpunk: Mercenaries and SSSS.Gridman), who’ll be making his directorial debut with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Ikarashi joined in via a recorded video message and shared a special “Director’s Voice” clip, telling us more about why he wanted to make this anime.
So, yeah, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is officially happening! They’re promising a darker, grittier, and more realistic look at Night City’s harsh world. They even showed off a teaser poster and gave us a sneak peek of what’s coming, hinting at a deeper dive into emotions, with even more violence and realism. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 aims to truly expand the universe and will probably break our hearts all over again. Oh, and they also announced a manga prequel titled Madness, which will focus on Becca and Pilar. It’ll give us more insight into what happened before Season 2. Catch the broadcast. David’s story might be over, but there’s still so much more to uncover in Night City. “Getting to work with the legendary Studio TRIGGER again has us super pumped to bring you an intense, true-to-life story of redemption and revenge—something truly different from anything we’ve done before,” says Sztybor, who is the showrunner, writer, and producer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. He’ll be working with Kanno Ichigo, the character design lead (of Promare, Cyberpunk: Mercenaries), and Masahiko Otsuka (of Gurren Lagann, Promare), who will be in charge of adapting the script. The panel wrapped up with an invite to a super exclusive, closed-door screening, which featured a new teaser during the Studio TRIGGER panel later that night at the Peacock Theater.
Created jointly by CD PROJEKT RED and Studio TRIGGER, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is already in production and will be coming out on Netflix.
