The Microsoft ended the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 on this Sunday with the announcement of the Call of Duty for 2025, which is Call of Duty Black Ops 7.
The debut trailer starts with a humanoid robot introducing the “Guild” and the company’s technology that uses robotics and AI to save lives. However, when touching a screen where a butterfly has somehow entered and digitized itself, the character finds a devastated science fiction world.
As the nature of the trailer is unclear regarding whether it represents a metaphor or a fantasy and science fiction setting, Activision and Treyarch studio have provided the following synopsis: “The year is 2035, and the world stands on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflicts and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. With cutting-edge technology, the Black Ops team led by David Mason must fight against a manipulative enemy who uses fear as their primary weapon.”
The protagonist, David Mason, will be portrayed by Milo Ventimiglia (known for “Gilmore Girls” and “Heroes”), with the character undergoing a subtle transformation to better align with the actor’s appearance. The cast also includes Kiernan Shipka (“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) as Emma Kagan.
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 does not have a confirmed release date at this time, but it is reasonable to speculate that the game will be available during the typical launch window, either in October or November. It is expected that the game will be accessible from day one on Xbox Game Pass, as well as for PC and PS5.
