The last time MindsEye was in the spotlight was two years ago at an event organized by Build a Rocket Boy studio in Scotland. PlayersForLife was one of the few media outlets invited and had the opportunity to discover the game and speak with Leslie Benzies, the game director, who is best known for heading Rockstar North studios and producing all the Grand Theft Auto games and the first Red Dead Redemption before leaving in 2015. It came as a surprise to see him appear during the State of Play presentation, where he spoke and presented two videos from MindsEye. One was a Story Trailer introducing the universe, setting, and characters, while the other showcased gameplay to give us a glimpse into where this futuristic GTA-like game is heading.
MindsEye is an action-adventure solo thriller developed by Leslie Benzies, formerly of Rockstar North. Set in a near-future fictional desert city called Redrock, the game explores the conflict between artificial intelligence and human greed, which are pushing Earth toward collapse. MindsEye revisits mechanics similar to those found in Grand Theft Auto (GTA), including car driving and gunfights, but also incorporates strategic elements that emphasize using one’s environment for combat advantages.Players take on the role of Jacob Diaz, a former soldier haunted by flashbacks from a covert mission that altered his life. Jacob has a mysterious brain implant called MindsEye, which disrupts him with fragments of memories, compelling him to uncover the truth about his past. As he investigates the society responsible for this implant, his inquiry uncovers a larger conspiracy involving other individuals.
From a gameplay perspective, MindsEye is ambitious, allowing players to navigate on foot, by car, or even in the air. The combat system has been designed to be fluid, dynamic, and strategic, with the added feature of using a drone as players progress through missions.
