MultiVersus Returns Definitively After a Year's Hiatus, 3D Engine Switched

Player First Games is thrilled to resurrect MultiVersus on May 28, 2024, after a meticulous 1.5-year enhancement phase, now boasting Unreal Engine 5, new modes, and polished mechanics across multiple platforms with cross-play and progression.

Exactly one year after Player First Games announced the removal of their game MultiVersus, the studio disclosed that this was a necessary hiatus to complete the game's development. The initial phases were based on an Early Access version, and this pause allowed them to assess public reception and feedback, reinforcing their decision to further develop the game with the quality it deserves. In a video message, Tony Huynh, Game Director and co-founder of Player First Games, announced the definitive return of MultiVersus on May 28, 2024, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The game will benefit from cross-play and cross-progression. This 1.5-year break (at the time of its May release) enabled developers to rebuild the game entirely, switch engines to Unreal Engine 5, add new game modes, and make adjustments to gameplay. This will provide an opportunity to retest the game when it relaunches.
