Today brings both excitement and a touch of nostalgia as Nintendo shared some news on their social media at 4 PM: After an incredible 32-year run, Charles Martinet will no longer be voicing Mario. At 67 years old, Charles leaves behind an impressive legacy but also opens the door for new talent to step into the iconic role, although Nintendo hasn’t revealed who that might be yet. To make sure the transition is smooth and respectful, they’ve announced that Charles will become Mario’s official ambassador, continuing to connect with fans at conventions and other events worldwide. This news comes on the heels of earlier announcements where Chris Pratt was cast as Mario in an animated film, replacing Charles in its original version—a decision that didn’t sit well with many long-time Mario fans.
