Avant sa sortie, « Death Stranding 2 : On The Beach » a suscité une grande attention, avec une note moyenne de 90 sur 94 critiques sur Metacritic. Cela le place comme le quatrième jeu le plus apprécié de l’année selon l’agrégateur. Considérant les versions pour Switch 2 de « The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom » et « Breath of the Wild », cela marquerait la sixième sortie, mais comme les deux sont simplement des améliorations de jeux précédents, il est raisonnable de dire que les quatre premières places pour DS2 sont sécurisées pour l’instant.
