Following several teasers and trailers, Rebel Wolves studio released a detailed gameplay video for “The Blood of Dawnwalker,” an action RPG set in a fantastical open world. This game incorporates elements reminiscent of The Witcher, as many members of its development team previously worked at CD Projekt Red.
The demonstration captured on PC is of a pre-beta version and therefore does not represent the final product. In it, the protagonist Coen visits the city of Vale Sangora to learn more about a powerful weapon hidden in a cathedral.
In 14th century Europe, bloodshed plagues the land, and the Black Death strikes what remains of the population. As a result, vampires seize the chance to emerge from obscurity and claim the freedom and power that has eluded them for centuries.
You play as Coen, a young individual transformed into an Aurora Wanderer, always navigating the boundary between the world of day and the realm of night. You must choose to fight for your humanity or embrace the cursed powers in order to save your family. Regardless of the choice you make, the central question remains: is your soul worth the lives of those you love?
Coen is a half-vampire, which means that during the daytime, his health does not regenerate. This poses a challenge because casting spells depletes his HP. At night, however, he can restore his health by feeding on human NPCs and wild creatures.
The hunger level corresponds to your health bar, and every night, Coen starts hungry. The player can choose how much blood to drain, enough to incapacitate or kill someone, so caution must be exercised to avoid killing important non-player characters (NPCs).
The character’s progression is defined by three skill trees—Human, Vampire, and Shared—with Active Skills dictating unlockable battle abilities. In addition to feeding on enemies and using claws during combat, Coen can utilize a skill called Shadow Step to teleport to any reachable location, Focus Mode to highlight objects of interest, and Planned Displacement to climb walls and ceilings.
“The Blood of Dawnwalker,” an action RPG developed by Rebel Wolves studio, is scheduled for release in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set against the backdrop of 14th-century Europe during the Black Death and a vampire uprising, players assume the role of Coen, a half-vampire Aurora Wanderer, tasked with balancing his humanity and cursed powers to save his family. During daytime gameplay, Coen’s health does not regenerate; he must feed on humans or creatures at night to restore it, carefully managing hunger levels to avoid unintended fatalities. The game offers three skill trees—Human, Vampire, and Shared—with Active Skills such as Shadow Step for quick movement, Focus Mode to highlight objects, and Planned Displacement for climbing walls and ceilings. This title shares thematic similarities with “The Witcher” due to the creators’ previous work at CD Projekt Red.
