The promotional campaign for Wuchang Fallen Feathers is gaining momentum. Just days after releasing two gameplay videos, Chinese studio Leenzee has published another video that exceeds 14 minutes in length. The objective of this new release is to offer a more comprehensive insight into the game’s combat system, exploration elements, and its universe, which draws inspiration from late Ming Dynasty China. To provide context, Wuchang Fallen Feathers places players in the kingdom of Shu, torn apart by internal conflicts and a mysterious epidemic that transforms humans into monstrous beings. Players take on the role of Bai Wuchang, an amnesiac pirate suffering from a supernatural curse. The game features a non-linear structure with interconnected zones, side quests that impact the storyline, and several possible endings.
The gameplay emphasizes tactical and dynamic confrontations, as Bai Wuchang can handle up to 25 different weapons, categorized into five groups, each offering distinct combat styles. Additionally, there are 40 magical spells that can be integrated into combos or used independently. An original mechanic, the “Inner Demon,” temporarily enhances the protagonist’s abilities after specific actions but also increases her vulnerability. If she dies with this enhancement active, a corrupted version of herself will appear, forcing the player to confront it to regain resources.
Developed using Unreal Engine 5, Wuchang Fallen Feathers features detailed environments and meticulous artistic direction that blend traditional Chinese architecture with supernatural elements. The visual effects, particularly during combat, enhance immersion in this dark universe. However, some observers have noted a certain stiffness in animations and an interface that could be improved, suggesting the game might benefit from additional optimization phases before release. With this new presentation, Wuchang Fallen Feathers confirms its ambition to join the lineage of Souls-like games while bringing its own cultural and gameplay identity. It remains to be seen if the game will translate these promises into a memorable experience upon its release on July 23rd next year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
