Sony Pictures did not take long to release the trailer for “Until Dawn,” an adaptation of the well-known video game by Supermassive Games. As indicated in the initial preview video, the concept of time loops is thoroughly explored here. It explains that each death and subsequent respawn provides victims with new clues. Unlike “Groundhog Day,” however, each replayed day is unique, as our young adult characters relive their final moments facing a different enemy and, most importantly, a distinct kind of horror.
PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures closely collaborated with director/producer David F. Sandberg (Annabelle 2: The Creation of Evil, Shudder in Darkness) and writer/producer Gary Dauberman (It, the Annabelle series, The Nun series) to adapt this intriguing version of Until Dawn for the big screen. The production aimed to pay homage to the spirit of the Until Dawn game, particularly its branching storylines resulting from decisions and their deadly consequences, while offering a different concept to surprise both viewers and players familiar with the story. Although all characters are new, actor Peter Stormare, known as Dr. Hill in the game, makes an appearance and wished to leave a message for the game’s fans:
I am incredibly fortunate to have been involved in Until Dawn since its inception, contributing to the creation of the terrifying and remarkable first game. This is why I am equally thrilled to be part of this film adaptation. It is a genuine love letter to the horror genre and I believe it undoubtedly honors the spirit of the game. The movie will feature new characters and victims while telling an untold story full of twists. Whether you are a longtime fan or discovering this universe, prepare to see Until Dawn in a new light.
