It had been hinted at for some time, but during the Xbox Developer_Direct event, the first gameplay footage of the Indiana Jones game announced by Bethesda Softworks three years ago was indeed revealed. There were doubts, but it is now confirmed: the game will be a First-Person Shooter (FPS) rather than a Third Person Shooter as many players had hoped. Players will experience the world through Indiana Jones’ perspective in search of treasures and other lost artifacts. Some players predicted this design choice, particularly given that MachineGames, known for their FPS work including the Wolfenstein reboot, is leading development.
The “deep dive” video for Indiana Jones and the Circle of the Ancients shows that certain transversal passages will allow players to view Indiana Jones from behind. It is unfortunate not to fully utilize Harrison Ford’s youthful appearance, as the game is set between Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. However, it is important to note that Troy Baker, rather than Harrison Ford, will provide the voice for the character. In France, Richard Darbois will dub Indiana Jones; however, his voice has changed significantly over time, which some have noted as a disconnect between the 40-year-old character and the current 72-year-old Richard Darbois. This is a separate issue for discussion. The release of Indiana Jones and the Circle of the Ancients is scheduled for 2024 on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
