The news was announced at night: The Last of Us Part II will indeed receive its remastered version on PS5, with the release date set for January 19, 2024. Given that Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog are aware this upgrade so soon after the original game’s release may raise controversy, it is planned to charge a small fee of €10 for PS4 owners. However, developers have also included several surprises, starting with new game modes like “No Return,” which will allow players to embody various characters in wave-based confrontations against random enemies. Progressing through this mode will unlock numerous bonuses and even provide access to a global ranking system.
We also learn that new, unseen levels will be included in the game under the name “Lost Levels,” which consist of previously unused content from the development process, accompanied by developer commentary to provide additional details. Naughty Dog notes that these levels are not fully completed but will still offer players unique experiences and approaches. Among those providing commentary are Neil Druckmann, Halley Gross, Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey. Enhanced graphics with native 4K rendering and multiple Fidelity and Performance modes are also promised. This remastered version of The Last of Us Part II is set to take advantage of the PS5’s SSD technology, which will eliminate load times, offer accessibility options, and utilize DualSense features. Additionally, players can enjoy a dedicated music instrument mode where they can freely learn to play the guitar.
