GSC Game World has announced that the expansion for Stalker 2, titled Stalker 2: Cost of Hope, will be released on August 20, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This expansion centers on a conflict between the classic factions Duty and Freedom. It introduces new locations, allies, enemies, and weapons, including fan-favorite firearms like the An94, F2000, and Desert Eagle. Stalker 2: Cost of Hope will guide players through new areas of the Exclusion Zone, with a particular emphasis on the Chernobyl Power Plant. There, players will encounter new mutants and anomalies. The developer highlighted that the additional content extends beyond side missions, featuring a robust main storyline designed to significantly increase gameplay time. The GSC team stated, “We are adding dozens of hours of gameplay,” emphasizing their commitment to a substantial expansion that will deepen the Stalker universe.

The new content continues the narrative after Skif’s journey into the Iron Forest and near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Concurrently, Version 2.0 will upgrade the base game from Unreal Engine 5.1 to 5.5.4. Polygon reports that Cost of Hope is the first major expansion for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl since its launch in 2024. The studio has not yet provided detailed patch notes or a complete breakdown of this free content. Alongside the expansion, a free Game Version 2.0 update will be released, incorporating graphics features from a new version of Unreal Engine. Wishlisting for Stalker 2: Cost of Hope is now available, and a trailer revealing its release date has been unveiled. Furthermore, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition has received significant upgrades. These improvements include new lighting, enhanced textures, advanced shaders, and prerendered cutscenes in 4K resolution. The enhanced edition trilogy also now supports keyboard and mouse controls on consoles, along with modding capabilities. The original trilogy was available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store at launch.
