Marvel Studios revealed key details about the upcoming Black Panther 3 at San Diego Comic-Con, including the casting of its new lead and the film’s release date. The third installment will focus on T’Challa II, the son of the late King T’Challa, who was introduced as a child in the closing moments of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Now an adult, the character will be portrayed by David Jonsson, known for his roles in Alien: Romulus, March or Die, and the series Industry. Denzel Washington is also slated to join the cast of Black Panther 3. The original Black Panther, released in 2018, was a critical and commercial success, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide and earning three Academy Awards. Chadwick Boseman originated the role of T’Challa, the king of Wakanda and a global superhero. Boseman passed away from cancer in August 2020 at the age of 43.

The sequel, Wakanda Forever, released in 2022, explored the aftermath of T’Challa’s death. The film achieved $859 million at the box office and received an Oscar for Ruth E. Carter’s Costume Design, making her the first Black woman to win two Academy Awards.
