With the final trailer released and tickets now available, Warner Bros. has announced that Mortal Kombat II will arrive in theaters, including IMAX, on May 8, 2026. Director Simon McQuoid returns after helming the 2021 franchise reboot. Following the success of the first Mortal Kombat film, which grossed $84.4 million against a $55 million budget and became HBO Max’s most-watched film of that year, a sequel and a planned third installment were greenlit. Responding to criticism of the first film’s focus on newcomer Cole Young, Mortal Kombat II will center on the conflict between Emperor Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) and Earthrealm’s champions. Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) steps up to lead the defense of Earth from annihilation in the R-rated showdown. The film promises the series’ signature bloody violence and gore, and fans can also expect the return of Fatalities and Arcana powers. The trailer also teases a return of the Scorpion vs. Noob Saibot rivalry. The film introduces Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel. In a cameo appearance, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon will play a bartender serving Johnny Cage.
