The Brazilian Film Festival in Paris will honor the legacy of Paulo Gustavo, a major figure in Brazilian comedy. On April 12th, his widower, Thales Bretas, will be present as Globo Filmes presents a special video tribute. The event will also feature a screening of My Mother is a Piece 3, the film that launched Paulo Gustavo’s career and made his character, Dona Herminia, a cultural icon. The tribute will include Brazilian and French artists and a presentation by Ingrid Guimarães of an excerpt from Susana Garcia’s comedy My Best Friend, starring Guimarães and Monica Martelli. The festival will also debut Very Special Agents, a film inspired by Paulo Gustavo and Marcus Majella, starring Majella as Jeff and Pedroca Monteiro as Johnny. Paulo Gustavo’s mother requested the revival of this project. According to Katia Adler, the event organizer, the festival celebrates Paulo Gustavo’s work and its impact on generations. Thales Bretas will accept the honor on Paulo Gustavo’s behalf.

Paris Festival Honors Paulo Gustavo, Showcases Claudio Torres’s Old Criminals and More (April 7-14, 2026)

The festival, which takes place from April 7th to 14th, 2026, at Cinema Larlequin in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, will also feature Old Criminals by Claudio Torres, starring Fernanda Montenegro, among other films.
