Following the release of Crimson Desert, ElAnalistaDeBits published a YouTube analysis comparing its performance on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The analysis attributes the game’s performance to Pearl Abyss’s effective optimization using its proprietary Blackspace Engine. According to the analysis and initial tests by Digital Foundry, the standard PS5 performs best in Balanced Mode, delivering upscaled 4K resolution at approximately 40 frames per second without significant screen tearing, lagging, or frame drops. Digital Foundry also noted that frame rates in Quality and Balanced Modes are more consistent, running at approximately 30fps and 40fps respectively, enhanced by FSR 3 upscaling. Switching to Performance Mode on the base PS5 results in a substantial drop in visual quality and a blurry picture, displaying at a native 1080p without upscaling and fluctuating frame rates. Disabling HDR may improve the game’s appearance by making colors more vibrant and day/night visuals clearer.

Optimized RayTracing Performance on Base PS5 vs. Pro in Crimson Desert

The PS5 Pro offers 4K Ultra Raytracing gameplay without upscaling, along with compatibility for upgraded PSSR 2.0. The game features three visual modes on both consoles: Quality, Balanced, and Performance. While Quality mode offers enhanced settings, including improved lighting, level of detail (LOD), textures, vegetation density, and water quality, the visual differences between the consoles become more apparent in Performance mode. In this mode, the base PS5 makes more significant reductions in visual fidelity to maintain fluidity compared to the PS5 Pro. The primary difference in how each console handles RayTracing lighting becomes apparent when using Performance mode. To maintain high frame rates, the base PS5 significantly reduces RayTracing effects, while the PS5 Pro handles them more efficiently. However, the analysis suggests limitations in PlayStation’s upscaling technology (PSRR), noting that the image on the PS5 Pro sometimes appears slightly more desaturated than on the base model. Despite visual compromises, frame rates are a highlight. In Performance mode, the base PS5 can reach peaks of approximately 80fps, while the PS5 Pro consistently ranges between 90 and 100fps. ElAnalistaDeBits was impressed with Crimson Desert’s overall performance on current-generation consoles.
