Street Fighter series director Takayuki Nakayama has lauded the upcoming live-action adaptation for its intelligent approach, respect for the Capcom series, and dedication to its iconic characters. Nakayama visited the film set in 2025, and producers shared footage from his visit in a behind-the-scenes look. He commented, “The director and everyone involved in the production love Street Fighter—they are fans like us, which gives me immense confidence. I believe they have achieved something incredibly difficult in a very intelligent way.” Themes of “Honor. Respect. Legacy” appear central to the film, which stars Cody Rhodes as Guile, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Kyle Mooney as Marvin, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Mel Jarnson as Cammy, Eric Andre as Don Sauvage, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, and Jason Momoa as Blanka. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the adaptation aims for a fresh start for the franchise. The movie is slated for release on October 16, 2026.

Adding another layer to the production is Cody Rhodes’s casting; his prior WWE history with Roman Reigns adds an interesting element.
