Brazil Tied with Morocco in Opener of 2026 World Cup, No Neymar

Injured Neymar's Anticipated Return for Brazil in 2026 World Cup, Possible Appearance vs Haiti or Scotland

Brazil drew their opening match of the 2026 World Cup against Morocco, a game Neymar missed due to a calf injury. He sustained the injury on May 17 while playing for Santos against Coritiba. The injury is a grade two tear, more severe than initially believed. Neymar has been sidelined since October 2023 after tearing his ACL. Despite this, he is expected to rejoin the Brazilian national team for practice next week. There is a possibility he could participate in Brazil's second Group C game against Haiti on June 19. If further recovery time is needed, he may be ready for the match against Scotland on June 24. Brazil opted to keep Neymar on the roster rather than replace him. While he is not yet training with the team, his return to practice is anticipated next week. A grade two calf injury requires careful management, especially when there is pressure for him to return to the field quickly.
