Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy Resonance, the first game in the series to adopt the HD2D art style, a visual approach popularized by titles like Octopath Traveler and the Dragon Quest remakes. The announcement was made during a Nintendo Direct presentation, which also revealed an imminent release date of October 22, 2026. Final Fantasy Resonance will feature a turn-based combat system, aiming to recapture a classic RPG structure while offering a modern presentation. The HD2D aesthetic combines pixel art characters with high-definition backgrounds, sophisticated lighting, and depth effects, creating a visual reminiscent of past JRPGs with contemporary resources. The game is set to launch on October 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
