Crimson Desert surpasses 6 million copies sold, record for Korean industry

Pearl Abyss has announced that its open-world action RPG, Crimson Desert, has sold over 6 million copies worldwide. This milestone was revealed via the developer’s social media channels and comes less than two months after the game reached 5 million units sold. The title launched on March 19 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Crimson Desert achieved the following sales milestones: 2 million copies sold in its first day 3 million copies sold in less than a week 4 million copies sold by the end of March 5 million copies sold in just over three weeks 6 million copies sold approximately 83 days after its debut. This sales performance has made Crimson Desert the most commercially successful single-player South Korean game to date. The game’s release has also contributed to Pearl Abyss’s record-breaking financial results, accounting for the majority of the company’s revenue in its first quarter. According to market research firm Circana, Crimson Desert ranked second in U.S. video game sales for the entirety of 2026.

Crimson Desert’s Success Continues Amid Updates and New Content Plans

Pearl Abyss PR and Marketing Director Will Powers attributed the game’s success to a dedicated player base and its consistent popularity on Steam charts, noting that it continues to attract nearly 50,000 players each weekend, even three months post-launch. Powers also highlighted the value of game updates, referring to patches as “free marketing.” Following initial criticisms concerning controls and interface, Pearl Abyss has released numerous updates, implementing quality-of-life improvements, gameplay adjustments, and fixes requested by the community. These patches have significantly enhanced the game’s reception. Pearl Abyss has announced a summer roadmap for Crimson Desert, detailing upcoming content and confirming that downloadable content (DLC) is in development. New features are expected in the third quarter of 2026, with a DLC expansion also planned. The post also lists several armor sets available in Crimson Desert: the Blackwing Armor Set, Dark Marksman’s Plate Armor Set, Duskfang Leather Armor Set, Fallen Kingdom Armor Set, and Frostcursed Plate Armor Set. Due to Crimson Desert’s success, Pearl Abyss staff received a performance bonus of approximately $3,400.
