Nintendo has announced Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, a new entry in its motion-controlled sports series, set to launch on October 22, 2026, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. Preorders are now available. This sequel to the 2022 title, Nintendo Switch Sports, will feature a dozen activities designed for solo play or multiplayer fun using the motion controls of the new Joy-Con 2. The game offers a mix of returning favorites and new additions. The full list of sports includes: Archery Basketball Bowling Golf Jump Rope Power Cruising Prop Plane Skateboarding Table Tennis Tennis Thumb Wrestling Volleyball Gameplay in Thumb Wrestling will utilize the Joy-Con 2’s vertical tilt and shoulder button. Jump Rope and Skateboarding are among the new leisure activities introduced, with Skateboarding reportedly using Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort draws inspiration from the Wii Sports Resort, described as a spiritual successor. While it brings back activities like basketball and power cruising, some from the original Wii Sports Resort, such as sword dueling, frisbee, cycling, and canoeing, will not be included.

Enhanced Motion-Controlled Party Fun: Nintendo Switch Sports Resort 2026 with Joy-Con 2

The announcement was made during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation on June 9, 2026. This release comes four years after the original Nintendo Switch Sports, which IGN awarded a 7/10, noting its appeal as a party game with limited depth. The improved motion controls of the Joy-Con 2 provide an intuitive gaming experience. However, similar to previous motion-controlled games, the long-term engagement may rely on its multiplayer and online components. While the Pro Leagues and online content, accessible via subscription, aim to add stakes and progression, the core experience is most impactful when played with others. The novelty of physical movement for simple actions may have diminished since the Wii era, but the game is anticipated to provide fun for casual social gatherings.
