The most successful applications are typically prepared during the spring semester and submitted between May and July, with further refinements occurring during the high-volume October-December period. The criteria emphasize the transferable skills and lessons learned from sports rather than solely athletic statistics; only 1% of the criteria directly references athletic achievements. Analysis of athletic scholarship applicants shows that 57.7% are high school students, a larger proportion than among general scholarship applicants. The remaining applicants include 20.6% in undergraduate programs, 9.8% adult learners, 8.2% in associate degree programs, and 3.8% graduate students. The average GPA among these applicants is 3.7, with 65.2% holding a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Nursing and clinical fields are the most popular areas of study (7.9%), followed by business (5.2%), psychology (5.0%), health professions (2.8%), and computer science (2.6%). Geographic location also influences win rates, with Washington D.C. applicants having a significantly higher success rate (2.3%) compared to California applicants (0.7%). Among scholarship recipients, 26.7% are first-generation college students and 50.8% come from low-income families. The period with the least competition for submissions is late spring and summer, making it an optimal time for application.
