After NetEase’s Abandonment, Gang of Dragon May Be Cancelled

Gang of Dragon, the debut title from Toshihiro Nagoshi’s Nagoshi Studio, faces cancellation following a funding cut by Netease. Nagoshi, known for his work on the Yakuza series, established his studio under the ambitious promises of the Chinese group. The game, a new gangster series starring actor Ma Dongseok, was first revealed with a trailer at The Game Awards 2025. However, Netease Games has decided to cancel the project to avoid investing the approximately 7 billion JPY (about US$43 million) required for its completion. According to a Bloomberg report, Toshihiro Nagoshi sought sponsors to acquire the Gang of Dragon license from Netease Games in an attempt to salvage the project before its cancellation. Further fueling speculation about the game’s future, the Nagoshi Studio YouTube channel was deleted in April 2026, removing all official trailers for Gang of Dragon. While the studio’s website remains active, the disappearance of its digital presence indicates a significant shift in production plans.

Future of Gang of Dragon Hangs in Balance after NetEase Release and Potential New Sponsor Sought

Netease Games is prepared to release Nagoshi Studio from its publishing contract if the developer purchases the Gang of Dragon property and assets. With no new backer confirmed, the game’s path forward appears increasingly challenging. Nagoshi Studio was unable to secure a new production deal by May. The developer took down its YouTube channel and all content related to Gang of Dragon development, signaling a potential end to the project.
