Starfield Reclaims Top Spot in US Sales Rankings, But Numbers Are Modest

Bolstered by its recent PlayStation 5 release, Starfield reclaimed the top spot in U.S. sales rankings for the week ending April 11, marking its first time at number one since September 2, 2023. According to data from industry analyst Mat Piscatella at Circana, the PlayStation 5 version, which includes the Shattered Space expansion and the Lanes update, sold approximately 140,000 copies in its first week. The PlayStation 5 release accounted for 95% of the game’s full-game sales during that launch week. While Starfield topped the charts, the competition included MLB The Show 26 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which finished in second and third place, respectively. Starfield offered a five-day early access period for players who purchased pricier editions. Kotaku reported that Starfield debuted in fourth place for first-week PlayStation 5 sales. A Switch title could have potentially outperformed Starfield if Circana included digital sales data from Nintendo, though the only major Switch launch during that period was the free-to-play game Pokemon Champions. In addition to strong sales on the PlayStation 5, Starfield saw a resurgence on Xbox consoles, jumping from 56th to 18th in player count rankings on Xbox Series X and S.
