Paul McCartney has confirmed that Ringo Starr will appear on his upcoming solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, scheduled for release on May 29, 2026. The collaboration, on the track “Home to Us,” features Starr on drums and vocals alongside Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders and Sharleen Spiteri of Texas. The news was revealed during a listening session for the album at producer Andrew Watt’s studio in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 16, 2024. McCartney explained that the song, centered on growing up in Liverpool, led him to invite Starr to contribute. “I met Ringo and told him I was working with this guy, Andrew [Watt], so Ringo went to Andrew’s studio and played a bit on the drums.” According to McCartney, Starr initially felt satisfied that he’d provided enough for Watt to build the song’s foundation but grew somewhat irritated with Watt’s further requests. Initially, Starr believed he was only singing the chorus. McCartney, on receiving a demo where Starr only sang the refrain, misinterpreted this as a lack of interest in the song. However, after they discussed McCartney’s vision for the track, they agreed to expand Starr’s role, turning it into a full duet.

During the 2020 lockdown, McCartney and producer Greg Kurstin collaborated at their Kensington Mews studio on McCartney III Imagined, which featured artists such as Beck, St. Vincent, Khruangbin, Blood Orange, and Phoebe Bridgers covering tracks from McCartney’s McCartney III album. Following that project, McCartney began working on The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which includes 14 tracks, many of which reflect on his childhood in Liverpool. The album, featuring instruments such as guitar, piano, drums, bass, and synthesizer, includes guest appearances by Ringo Starr, Chrissie Hynde, and Sharleen Spiteri. McCartney shared that “Home to Us” explores the theme of growing up in Liverpool and how, despite its challenges, the neighborhood felt like home. This collaboration marks the first official duet between McCartney and Starr.
