Weekly Shonen Jump magazine first published Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai in Japan in 1989, and the manga, written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inada, quickly became a bestseller. The manga, based on the Dragon Quest video game, was adapted into an anime known in Brazil as Fly, the Small Warrior. The story begins after the demon king Hadlar is defeated by Avan, bringing peace to Dermline Island and freeing all demons. Dai, the only human on the island, was raised by his adoptive monster grandfather, Brass, and dreams of becoming a hero. When Avan returns to offer Dai training, the demon king’s unexpected return interrupts their plans. This event awakens a hidden power within Dai, marked by a mysterious symbol on his forehead. Determined to restore peace, Dai sets out to confront the demon king.

Riku Sanjo, a manga writer and anime film scriptwriter, graduated from Meiji University. In addition to Dragon Quest, he co-created the manga Boken O Bito (Beet the Vandel Buster) with Koji Inada. His scriptwriting credits include the film Gegege No Kitaro: Explosive Japan (2008), the live-action TV series Kamen Rider Drive (2014-2015) and Kamen Rider Zero-One (2019-2020), and Kamen Rider franchise films such as Kamen Rider Eternal (2011) and Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future (2015). Koji Inada, a graduate of Tokyo Metropolitan College of Aeronautical Engineering, co-authored Dragon Quest with Riku Sanjo and continues to illustrate Boken O Bito. Both manga were published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Editora JBC will release the first volume of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai in Brazil on April 28, 2026.
