According to Natethehate, a source known for accurate Nintendo predictions, the major release for the Nintendo Switch 2 this year will be a remake of the classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Natethehate stated in a podcast that Nintendo’s plans for the year do not include Mario; the 3D Mario debut on the Switch 2 is set for 2027. However, Star Fox and Zelda are planned for the second year of the new console’s launch to boost sales. Natethehate claimed that a classic Star Fox revival is planned for the Switch 2 by mid-2026, capitalizing on Fox McCloud’s appearance in the Super Mario Galaxy film. “Star Fox is returning this summer of 2026,” he said. “We will have a new Star Fox game very soon.” He added that the game would be a Star Fox title in the classic style, with excellent graphics and online multiplayer. This would be the first major game in the Star Fox series in a decade, since the release of Star Fox Zero for Wii U, which was developed by PlatinumGames.

Natethehate also indicated that a new 3D Mario game will not arrive in 2026 to coincide with the Super Mario Galaxy film; Nintendo plans to release the game succeeding Super Mario Odyssey in 2027, exactly a decade later. This leaves Zelda as an alternative to drive demand for the Switch 2. To that end, the company is reportedly working on a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for release this year on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Zelda series. Video Games Chronicle has also reported that Nintendo is working on this remake. Natethehate stated that “in the second semester of 2026, close to Christmas, we will receive a remake of Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2.” Nintendo’s plans should become official by midyear, as the company usually holds important Nintendo Direct presentations in June.
