Alien Deathstorm, from the creators of Sniper Elite, unveiled in trailer

British studio Rebellion, known for the Sniper Elite series, Zombie Army Trilogy, and Atomfall, announced Alien Deathstorm during Thursday's Xbox Partner Preview—a first-person action-horror title blending science fiction, survival, and intense gunfights. In Alien Deathstorm, players become elite combat engineers, highly trained in search and rescue, combat, demolitions, and engineering. These specialists are dispatched to a remote off-world facility after a total communications blackout following a colony's sudden silence. Their mission: uncover the cause and save lives within a colony devastated by relentless storms and monstrous threats, where every step is a fight for survival. Steeped in Lovecraftian horror and 1980s analog science fiction, the game's chunky, vibrant visuals evoke old VHS tapes. Expect mechanical keyboards, robust equipment, and a retro-futuristic aesthetic that sets it apart from the clean digital design of many modern games. Ben Fisher, head of design at Rebellion, emphasized that the game's aesthetic provides the colony with a unique feel. He explained, "We drew inspiration from a slightly more analogic world of 1980s scifi, much more mechanical keyboard than touchscreen... We took influences from everything, from Lovecraftian Eldritch horror to the VHS 1980s scifi, so we think people will be intrigued by what weve built."

Alien Deathstorm: Action-Horror Survival Amidst Seasonal Catastrophe & Alien Threat (2027 Release)

Alien Deathstorm distinguishes itself as a true hybrid of action and horror, combining high-tension exploration with intense ballistic firefights and a constant sense of threat. Though players may gain a sense of power in certain areas, danger remains, whether from sinister alien creatures or the Deathstorm—a seasonal atmospheric catastrophe with hurricane-force winds capable of tearing apart entire buildings. Survival depends on seeking shelter, managing storm timing, and exploiting the environment. Scheduled for release in 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation, Alien Deathstorm will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. Check out the reveal trailer now.
