Brace your wallet: PS5 and PS5 Pro prices may soon skyrocket

Sony is expected to announce a significant price increase across its current PlayStation hardware lineup, including the PlayStation 5 Slim, the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro, and the PlayStation Portal, according to a rumor from French content creator Gyo. Gyo claims Sony has warned retail sources of an imminent and drastic change to its hardware price structure. The rumored price increases in Europe are as follows: PlayStation 5 Slim (Disc Edition): Increasing from €549.99 to €649.99 PlayStation 5 Pro: Increasing from €799.99 to €899.99 PlayStation Portal: Increasing from €219.99 to €249.99 These prices reflect a potential €100 increase for both the PS5 Slim (with disc) and the PS5 Pro, and a €30 increase for the PlayStation Portal. Applying the same €100 increase, the Digital Edition of the PS5 Slim would increase to €599.99. The rumor does not specify whether these price increases will extend beyond Europe. Currently, the Xbox Series X, a main competitor of the PS5 Slim, is priced at €599.99. Wccftech assesses the probability of this rumor at 70%, citing the current international climate and a memory component crisis as potential contributing factors.

Sony Rumored to Increase PS5 Prices Again on March 27th - Potential €100 Boost

If confirmed, this would not be the first time Sony has adjusted console prices this generation. In August 2022, the original PS5 models saw a €50 price increase, and in April 2023, the Slim Digital Edition also increased by €50, settling at its current price of €499.99. Adding to the speculation, eXtas1s, a French website, reported the rumored price hike on social media, claiming that an official announcement is expected on March 27th. Official confirmation from Sony Interactive Entertainment is pending.
