Anyone Over 17 Wants to Play GTA 6

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick believes GTA 6 will captivate gamers aged 17 and above, while Rockstar Games aims to recreate the entertainment they loved as teens, appealing to a diverse age range of players.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar Games' parent company), is confident that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will appeal to gamers aged 17 and older with a console. Speaking to The Game Business, Zelnick dismissed concerns that long-time fans might feel too old for the new installment. "We remain engaged with the type of entertainment we fell in love with at 17," Zelnick stated, expressing his belief that GTA 6 will attract a wide audience.

The gaming community, however, has already been subjected to misinformation surrounding the game. A hoax gameplay video for Grand Theft Auto VI tricked thousands of viewers before its creator admitted the deception. Tenshin, the individual behind the fake clip, revealed that editing techniques and a realistic user interface (UI) contributed to the video's believability. He also shared a YouTube video detailing the creation process, which involved recreating a specific part of Miami, complete with custom UI and post-processing effects. This incident underscores the need for vigilance and fact-checking in digital spaces, suggesting that developers like Rockstar Games may need to carefully balance managing expectations with maintaining secrecy. Consequently, GTA fans may become more cautious about future leaks and demand more rigorous verification from platforms and influencers.

Even before the rise of AI-generated fakes, Rockstar faced real security breaches. In 2022, 18-year-old Arion Kurtaj, a member of the Lapsus$ group, hacked into Rockstar's systems from a hotel room using an Amazon Fire Stick and his mobile phone. Kurtaj leaked over 90 clips of early GTA 6 footage, which Rockstar later confirmed as genuine. The breach, which revealed early versions of Vice City's map, character models, and gameplay mechanics, resulted in an estimated $5 million in damages and significant developer time lost. Kurtaj was subsequently sentenced to indefinite confinement in a secure hospital. In response, Rockstar mandated that all employees return to the office in 2024, primarily as a leak prevention measure. Later, in October 2025, Rockstar fired 34 employees across its UK and Canadian offices for sharing confidential GTA 6 details with non-Rockstar members on a Discord server. The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain accused the studio of union busting, and the case is currently under review at the Glasgow Employment Tribunal. Three additional employees were also fired at studios in Lincoln, USA, and India.

Adding to the confusion were AI-generated fakes. In February 2026, over half a million people viewed a phony gameplay clip featuring AI-generated menu pictures and spelling errors in the interface. Prior to this, in November 2025, a French social media account, "Zap Actu GTA6," shared AI-generated clips that amassed 8.1 million views before the creator admitted the fabrication. This has led to speculation that Rockstar might strategically release fake content as a form of trap, making it increasingly difficult to trust any information that surfaces before the game's official launch. Amidst the unverified claims, some genuine information has emerged, particularly regarding the game's soundtrack. An artist named Panama appeared to confirm that their song "Back to Life" would be featured on GTA 6 radio in a now-deleted Instagram comment. Neon Indian hinted at ongoing collaboration with Rockstar on a podcast, and rapper Jermaine Dupri revealed in an interview that Drake would curate his own radio station within the game.

GTA 6 Officially Confirmed for November 2026 Launch with Summer Marketing Preview

As for the game's official release, GTA 6 is confirmed to launch on November 19, 2026, with marketing slated to begin in the summer of that year. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed the summer marketing launch, suggesting potential new trailers and information releases are imminent.
