How to Enable Handheld Mode Boost on Switch 2 for Improved Graphics

To activate Handheld Mode Boost on your Switch 2 and enhance graphics when using dual-hand controls, follow these steps after updating to version 22.0.0: 1. From the HOME menu, select the gear icon to access Console Settings. 2. Navigate to the left sidebar and scroll down to the last section, System. 3. On the right side, find and select Nintendo Switch Software Handling. 4. Locate Handheld Mode Boost and switch it to Enabled (On). Once enabled, playing existing Nintendo Switch games in Handheld Mode on the Switch 2 can display up to 1080p, matching the console's screen resolution! This cool feature significantly improves the graphics and performance of select titles, making them appear as they would in TV mode, even when you're playing on the go. Games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Bayonetta 3, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will benefit from smoother gameplay and enhanced visuals. However, be aware of these potential side effects: Battery: Increased graphical demands will drain your Switch 2 battery faster. Touchscreen: Touchscreen functionality may be disabled in some games, as the system will assume it is displaying on a TV.

Enhancing Older Titles Graphics with Joy-Con 2 in Switch 2 Handheld Mode - Pro Controller Simulation & Variable Boost Effects

Motion Controls: The system recognizes attached Joy-Con 2 controllers as a single virtual Pro Controller, potentially causing issues with games requiring separate or specific motion controls in portable mode. To use other controllers, detach Joy-Con controller 2 from the console first. It's important to note that this feature enhances only older titles and has no impact on native Switch 2 games. Also, the extent of the boost may vary from game to game. If you encounter any problems or need to conserve battery, simply disable Handheld Mode Boost in the settings menu.
