The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s competitive scene will conclude with Season 41. With Pokémon Winds and Waves slated for release in 2027 and Pokémon Champions expected sooner, this suggests a replacement for the Video Game Championships (VGC) is imminent. On March 2, 2026, The Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are entering their final chapter of Generation 9 competitive play. Starting April 1, 2026, Ranked Battle Season 41 will begin, marking the last seasonal refresh for Gen 9. After that point, there will be no more monthly resets; the ladder will continue under the same rules until Nintendo shuts down its online services for the Nintendo Switch family. While no specific date has been given for the server shutdown, players are encouraged to participate in battles beforehand.

Starting April 1, 2026, Season 41 will introduce Regulation Set I to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which will be used for official VGC tournaments. This format allows players to use Pokémon from Scarlet and Violet or transferred through the Pokémon Home app—excluding Mythicals. Teams can include up to two Legendary Pokémon. Eligible creatures include the first 400 entries from the Paldea Pokédex, the first 242 from the Blueberry Pokédex, and the first 200 from the Kitakami Pokédex. Additionally, Alolan forms of Raichu, Meowth, and Persian are permitted, along with Galarian forms of Meowth, Weezing, and the Legendary Birds. In this ruleset, all Pokémon start at level 50, duplicate held items are prohibited, and any Terastallization form is allowed. From that date forward, no further updates will be provided to the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet competitive scene. Season 41 will continue until the eventual server closure, the date of which has yet to be announced. Game Freak and The Pokémon Company also revealed that monthly rewards and ranking-based rewards will cease starting April 1. These changes suggest a shift in focus towards the upcoming Pokémon Champions title.
