Ed Skrein has been officially confirmed to portray Baldur in Amazon Prime Video's new God of War series. In the 2018 Santa Monica Studio game, Baldur is Odin's son, cursed to feel neither physical pain nor pleasure. Driven by this curse, he relentlessly seeks an opponent strong enough to elicit any sensation in combat. Fans have reacted positively to Skrein's casting, due to his history of playing compelling villains such as Ajax in Deadpool and Atticus Noble in Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon. He also appeared in Game of Thrones. Skrein joins a confirmed cast that includes Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Callum Vinson as Atreus, and Mandy Patinkin as Odin. Hurst previously voiced and provided motion capture for Thor in God of War Ragnarok. The cast also features Olafur Darri Olafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, and Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as the dwarf brothers Brok and Sindri, the legendary creators of the Leviathan Axe. According to a press release, Baldur is Odin's deadliest weapon—a charming but unpredictable figure operating by his own rules. Cursed in childhood, he is unable to feel pain or pleasure and constantly searches for a worthy opponent to test his battle skills.

God of War Series Gets a Strong Start with Toye Directing First Two Episodes on Amazon Prime Video

Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes of God of War. The series, led by Ronald D. Moore, is coproduced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions. Amazon has already greenlit two full seasons of the series, a testament to their confidence in this adaptation and the enduring appeal of Kratos and Atreus' story. Although no release date has been announced, the strong cast and initial commitment suggest a promising future for the God of War series.
