Asha Sharma, the newly appointed Microsoft Gaming leader, faced her first controversy with the Xbox community after publicly sharing her Gamertag. Her Xbox profile raised eyebrows, with some questioning its authenticity due to the rapid accumulation of achievements and Gamerscore points in a short period. The profile, created on January 15, 2026, quickly amassed over 10,000 Gamerscore points across approximately 30 games in less than a month. Community members observed rapid 100% completions in games like Firewatch, as well as extensive playtime and rare achievements in Minecraft. One user noted 43 hours of playtime in Ball x Pit within a single week. This high level of engagement prompted further examination of Sharma's gaming habits. Sharma's gaming history includes titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Forza Horizon 5, Fallout 76, What Remains of Edith Finch, A Short Hike, Borderlands 2, and Halo Infinite. For example, records showed that on February 21, 2026, she played Borderlands 2 for 59 minutes, earning 10 Gamerscore, firing 342 shots, and reaching level 2 with 30 in-game kills. Sharma also briefly played Cities: Skylines Remastered for 12 minutes without earning any achievements, and Madden NFL 26 for two minutes.
This volume of activity in such a short time led to accusations that Sharma had artificially inflated her account to demonstrate a strong interest in video games. Furthermore, her formal communication style on X prompted speculation that she was using AI tools to interact with fans. In response to the scrutiny, Sharma clarified on X that the rapid accumulation of achievements and playtime resulted from the profile being shared by multiple family members. On February 24, 2026, she stated, "Faking would be terrible and wouldn’t work. I didn’t expect my Gamertag to blow up—the truth is more mundane. I created the account recently to learn and understand this world. I’ve been playing with my family, and it’s a shared home account across devices. We’ve since corrected that over the weekend, and now each plays on their own Gamertag." She also directly addressed the AI accusations, stating, "Yes, I write my posts personally," and jokingly responded with "Beep boop beep boop" to a user who called her a bot.

Sharma also expressed her admiration for Firewatch, stating a desire to create similarly impactful content for Xbox. "I created it recently to learn and understand this world. Ive played with my family, and its a shared home account across devices (which you..." The controversy underscores the challenges faced by new leaders in the gaming industry as they navigate community expectations and scrutiny.
