RAM Price Hikes Raise Questions Over Switch 2's Price

New Switch Console Pricing Potentially Affected by RAM Price Hikes and AI Data Center Demand

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently addressed investor concerns about rising technology costs and their potential impact on the price of the next Switch console. Specifically, Furukawa was asked how increasing RAM prices—driven by high demand from AI data centers—might affect the pricing of the "Switch 2." While he declined to discuss specific components, Furukawa stated that Nintendo is collaborating with suppliers to secure long-term supplies. With secure supply lines in place, current price increases should not pose a problem until March 2026. However, Furukawa acknowledged that sustained price increases could affect the profitability of the new console. Significant, sustained increases could compel Nintendo to re-evaluate pricing. He emphasized that platform popularity, sales trends, and overall market conditions, in addition to profit margins, would factor into any decisions made in response to ongoing cost increases.
