Xbox Sales in Japan Plummeted by Almost 75% in 2025

Xbox Faces Steep Sales Decline in Japan and Globally in 2025 Amid Competitor Gains

In 2025, Xbox endured a particularly difficult year in Japan, with sales of its Series X and S consoles plummeting by approximately 75%. This sharp decrease reflects Xbox's ongoing struggle to gain traction against Nintendo and Sony in the Japanese market. The Nintendo Switch 2, meanwhile, quickly became a bestseller, exceeding the combined sales of all competitor consoles for several weeks. The PlayStation 5 also surpassed Xbox in sales. These setbacks were not limited to Japan, however, as Xbox sales also declined significantly in markets such as the UK, making 2025 one of the brand's worst years for hardware sales globally.
