Final Fantasy VII's Japanese Release Turns 29 Today

Twenty-seven years ago, Final Fantasy VII debuted in Japan on the PlayStation. It remains one of the highest-rated games on GameFAQs.

Set in Midgar, a city controlled by the Shinra Electric Power Company, Final Fantasy VII follows a rebel group called Avalanche. In an attempt to ignite a revolt against Shinra, Avalanche bombs Mako Reactor No. 1, protesting the company's depletion of Mako energy and the planet's resources. Cloud, a former member of Shinra's elite SOLDIER unit, joins Avalanche after being caught up in the reactor explosion. Players can join Cloud and Avalanche as they attempt to save the planet from Shinra. Still popular after all these years, Final Fantasy VII is available on PC with new features, such as 36 achievements to unlock. Players can also share their profiles with friends online. Final Fantasy VII features cloud save support, allowing players to continue where they left off with an internet connection. Saves can be shared across up to three computers. The Character Enhancement feature allows players to boost their HP, MP, or Gil levels, and the game has been updated to be compatible with the latest Windows operating systems.
