Real PS4 Portable: OLED Screen and Up to Three Hours of Battery Life

Transformed PS4 Slim into Portable Gaming Device with OLED Screen and Three-Hour Battery Life

A dedicated hardware enthusiast has transformed a PlayStation 4 Slim into a portable gaming device, much like the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. Reddit user wewillmakeitnow undertook the project over several months, disassembling a PS4 Slim, shrinking its motherboard, designing and 3D-printing a custom case, and reconfiguring the components for portability, complete with integrated controls and a display screen. The resulting device features a 7-inch OLED display with 1080p resolution, capable of running games natively like a standard PS4, rather than relying on streaming or Remote Play. Powered by a high-capacity battery comprised of 21700 cells, the device delivers approximately three hours of gameplay for less demanding titles or average use, and around 1.5 hours for more resource-intensive games, offering better-than-expected performance. The creator has stated that there are currently no plans for commercial production, as this remains a personal project born out of a passion for gaming.
