Ghetto Zombies: Graffiti Squad is the Top-Down Shooter Against Brazilian Favela Zombies. By Pedro Zambarda

Ghetto Zombies: Graffiti Squad, a breakthrough indie Brazilian game, showcases the thriving peripheral gaming scene, balancing between triumphant repetitive gameplay and the need for sequels and broader media exposure.

Ghetto Zombies: Graffiti Squad Fogo Games, an indie studio based in the Grajaú neighborhood on the outskirts of São Paulo, has generated significant buzz with its upcoming game, Ghetto Zombies: Graffiti Squad, slated for release in early 2026. Published by Nuntius Games and Vsoo Games, the game was featured on Meteoro Brasil, a channel that covers "game drops." It also received prominent promotion on Flow Games, a popular gaming channel on YouTube with a viewership between three and five million.

Ghetto Zombies began as a demo on Steam before expanding into a full game. The title tasks players with battling the undead and tagging walls in the areas surrounding São Paulo. It incorporates elements reminiscent of Diablo, Vampire Survivors, and the Brazilian game Relic Hunters. The game features both male and female characters, and its mechanics are designed to be easily learned. Players typically start with a selection of weapons that includes a pistol, an automatic weapon (like a submachine gun), a shotgun, and a sniper rifle. When selecting a character—which can be swapped mid-game—players should consider their attributes: fast characters are ideal for evasion, while tank characters excel at absorbing damage and dealing powerful shots. A character with balanced stats is also available for those who prefer a middle ground. Certain weapons are particularly effective against specific zombies; for example, shotguns are highly effective at close range, and grenade pistols can eliminate enemies in one or two hits.

Ghetto Zombies' Unique São Paulo Turf Battle with Favela Flair and Indie Charm

One of Ghetto Zombies' defining features is its repetition, which serves as both a strength and a weakness. The gameplay consists of unlocking areas with keys, battling monsters, acquiring new weapons, and leveling up. Players ultimately face a final confrontation with the boss, "the Hunger." Taking on the horde in São Paulo neighborhoods like Grajaú or Itaim Paulista alongside the Z Squadron is a unique experience. The game's pixel art is well-executed, showcasing the potential of Brazil's gaming scene. Ghetto Zombies was developed with public funding via programs like Proac. This indie title, with its blend of zombie action and favela aesthetics, represents just the beginning for Fogo Games, and more exciting titles can be expected from the outskirts of São Paulo.
