Super Mario Galaxy: Animated Film Finally Reveals Talking Yoshi!

New Characters and Galactic Adventure in Super Mario Galaxy Animated Film with Speaking Yoshi

A Nintendo Direct presentation on Sunday featured a new two-minute trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie, revealing new characters and plot details. The trailer opens with Mario and Luigi riding a motorcycle through a windy, desert kingdom reminiscent of Mad Max, signaling a departure from the lighthearted tone of previous Mario films toward a more expansive, galactic adventure. The most significant reveal: Yoshi speaks. Yoshi's debut marks his official team-up with Mario and Luigi, foreshadowed by the hatching of a green egg in the 2023 Super Mario Bros. film. Other character cameos include Birdo, Mouser, Lakitu, and Baby Mario and Luigi. The trailer further showcases power-ups like frog suits and fire flowers, along with nods to Super Mario Odyssey, such as massive dinosaurs and desert landscapes. During the Nintendo Direct, Chris Meledandri of Illumination Studios announced that animation has wrapped and post-production is underway, with a focus on sound and music. Iconic tunes from Super Mario Galaxy will be performed by a 70-piece orchestra in partnership with Skywalker Sound, enhancing the film’s epic galactic atmosphere. The Super Mario Galaxy movie is scheduled to release on April 1, 2026, promising a strong narrative to complement its visuals.
