Globo Journalist Appears as Carlos Lacerda for Film

Pedro Bial Transforms as Controversial Carlos Lacerda in The Condor Conspiracy at Rio Film Festival

Pedro Bial, known for hosting the TV Globo show Conversa com Bial, stepped into the shoes of Carlos Lacerda (1914–1977) in the upcoming film The Condor Conspiracy, a notable casting choice given Lacerda's historical role as a political opponent of Getúlio Vargas (1882–1954). "I reckon it was my finest acting gig yet... I'm not an actor, or so I thought," Bial joked, recalling his previous roles in films such as Desenrola (2011) and Bingo: The King of Mornings (2017). In The Condor Conspiracy, premiering this Thursday, September 9, at the Rio Film Festival's Brazilian premiere, Bial embodies this controversial figure from Brazil's past. The film, directed by Andre Sturm, plunges viewers into the 1970s, following journalist Silvana (Mel Lisboa) as she investigates a suspected conspiracy behind the deaths of former presidents Juscelino Kubitschek and João Goulart, who both died in 1976. Kubitschek's fatal car crash and Goulart's sudden heart attack serve as the starting points for Silvana's perilous quest. Aided by a fellow journalist, played by Dan Stulbach, Silvana uncovers information suggesting the deaths may be linked to the repressive tactics of Brazil's Military Regime. IstoÉ and Mônica Bergamo at Folha de S.Paulo provide key details that fuel her investigation.
