Unrecognizable Hugh Jackman in First Trailer for 'The Death of Robin Hood'

Somber Robin Hood's Redemption Journey in A24's 'The Death of Robin Hood

The first official trailer for A24's The Death of Robin Hood, starring Hugh Jackman, presents a starkly different take on the classic hero. Directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One), the film co-stars Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgard, Murray Bartlett, Noah Jupe, and Elijah Ungvary. The trailer, released on January 6, 2026, depicts Jackman as a somber Robin Hood, marked by a violent past and the hardships he has endured, complete with long silvery hair and a scraggly beard. According to Sarnoski, this Robin Hood is a ruthless outlaw haunted by his criminal past and struggling with the heroic legends that have grown around him. After sustaining a near-fatal injury, a mysterious woman, played by Comer, offers Robin Hood a path to redemption. Sarnoski has stated that The Death of Robin Hood explores how power can be used for both good and evil, portraying Robin Hood as a flawed man with scars, pain, regret, and love. The film will examine whether Jackman's character will embrace the traditional archetype of stealing from the rich to give to the poor, or forge a new path entirely.

Jackman, who recently appeared in Song Sung Blue, also stars in The Sheep Detectives, due out in May from Amazon MGM Studios. While no firm release date has been set, The Death of Robin Hood is expected to be released in theaters sometime in 2026. The film promises a more realistic portrayal of the Robin Hood legend, focusing on his humanity and the consequences of his violent past.
