Leung Ka-fai portrays a psychopathic character, with one scene evoking Darth Vader from Rogue One. Chan reportedly performed his own stunts for the intense final fight sequence.

He also praised the film’s contrasts: analog vs. digital, AI vs. pursuers, and youth vs. veterans marked by generations of battles. Kojima found the confrontation between Jackie Chan, 71, and Tony Leung Ka-fai, 67, particularly captivating, noting that even the end-credit bloopers were moving. He highly recommends the film and hopes it achieves widespread success. The film explores the intersection of old-school detective work and new AI technology, testing the value of a police officer’s intuition. Unlike some recent films on similar themes, it offers a more optimistic perspective, emphasizing human-machine collaboration. While the film runs slightly long, Kojima felt that cutting approximately 20 minutes would improve it. Despite this issue, he considers it Chan’s best work in years.

Jackie Chan’s The Shadows Edge: Expanding Globally, Arrives in UK February 2026

The Shadows Edge was streamed on iQIYI on November 14 and grossed over RMB 1.2 billion. As of December 2025, Netflix has not acquired the film. The film will be released digitally in the UK on February 2, 2026, with limited 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray copies available on February 16. As of August, the film has been available in China and Hong Kong and is expanding to other Asian countries, but a European release date has not yet been announced.
