Death Stranding 2’s Unacknowledged Victories at TGA Amidst Clair Obscur’s Sweep by Pedro Zambarda

By Pedro Zambarda, Chief Editor Hideo Kojima, creator of Death Stranding, visited Brazil for BGS 2025 and posted 73 times about the country as part of a Rockstar-like world tour to promote Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. This tour included stops in the Middle East, London, the United States, and Paris. Kojima, who is friends with Canadian journalist and Gamescom/TGA host Geoff Keighley, saw Death Stranding 2 garner critical and fan acclaim, including a 90 on OpenCritic, and earn seven nominations at The Game Awards 2025 (TGA), including Game of the Year, Best Direction, Best Story, Best Art Direction, Best Soundtrack, Best Audio Design, and Best Action-Adventure Game. Despite this, and despite heavy investment from Sony and Microsoft in the first ten years of Kojima Productions, it did not receive any awards. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG from Sandfall Interactives, was the big winner at The Game Awards 2025. Nominated for a record-breaking 13 awards, it went head-to-head with Death Stranding 2 in most categories, ultimately winning eight.

Death Stranding 2’s New Narrative, Battles, Characters, and Environmental Agenda Unveiled by Kojima Productions

The sequel departs from the principles of the original 2019 Death Stranding, which was an anti-Metal Gear walking simulator about emptiness and the end of the world. Death Stranding 2 centers its narrative on a protagonist who is a parent in a decaying yet expanding world. The game features battles reminiscent of his work on Metal Gear and incorporates elements of Mad Max. It also includes striking female characters like Tomorrow and Fragile, embraces the madness of Dollman, adopts an environmental agenda, and critiques artificial intelligence. Kojima Productions is currently working on two new projects: an experimental horror story called OD and a suspenseful spy thriller titled Physint. Beyond the sequel, a live-action movie and two anime spinoffs are also in development for Death Stranding. Other announcements at the TGA included news that Forza Motorsport will no longer receive updates as Turn 10 Studios focuses on Forza Horizon 6, Battlefield 6 is giving away a free soldier skin for a limited time, and Final Fantasy VII Remake will soon be available in full on Xbox.
