Zootopia 2 Tops Hollywood's Success List for 2025

Zootopia 2 Leads Hollywood's Success in 2025 with a $1.137B Box Office Haul, Dominated by China Sales

As expected, Zootopia 2 surpassed $1.137 billion at the box office before its third weekend, with over $500 million coming from China. This made Zootopia 2 Hollywood's biggest success of 2025, overtaking another Disney film, Lilo & Stitch. Only the Chinese production, Ne Zha 2, earned more. However, James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ice, due in December, could challenge Zootopia 2, potentially giving Disney three of Hollywood's top films this year. Zootopia 2 reached $1.137 billion in just 17 days, boosted by strong earnings in China. Despite a 41% drop in viewership outside the U.S., it remained the most-watched film during its third weekend. Among other releases, Wicked: For Good earned $468 million, exceeding Captain America 4. Universal's Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (FNaF 2) reached $173 million.

Zootopia 2 Maintains Box Office Dominance in 2025 Amidst New Releases and Competition

Here's a closer look at the weekend box office: Zootopia 2 reclaimed the top spot, earning $26.3 million in its third week, surpassing FNaF 2. In its second weekend, FNaF 2 experienced a steep decline, bringing in $15.4 million—a 70% drop from its opening weekend. James L. Dhurandhar grossed $3.5 million during its initial run in U.S. and Canadian theaters. Now You See Me: Now You Don't only earned $2.4 million, while Eternity made a modest $1.8 million, and Hamnet grossed $1.5 million. Brooks Ella McCay, a comic drama about a 34-year-old woman becoming governor of her home state, grossed just $2.1 million across 2,500 locations. The film wasn't expected to be a major hit. Upcoming movies include The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, Marty Supreme, Anaconda, and Song Sung Blue. In other box office news, Badlands has grossed $182 million, The Running Man climbed to $68 million, and Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution reached $49 million. In related entertainment news, Netflix has hired Dani Dudeck as its new Chief Communications Officer, according to an exclusive report. Also, Titanique, a comedic take on Titanic, is set to debut on Broadway.

Zootopia 2 Leads Hollywood Box Office in 2025, Potential for Top Three Blockbusters

However, another Disney film, Ella McCay, underperformed both domestically and globally, earning only $2.4 million against a $35 million budget. Illusion Masters: Nothing is as it Seems has now surpassed $213 million after adding $5.6 million to its total. In summary, Zootopia 2 has become the top-earning film from Hollywood in 2025, earning $1.13 billion worldwide in just two weeks and solidifying Disney's leading position in the industry, despite recent setbacks. With Avatar: Fire and Ice expected to release in December, Disney could potentially hold the top three highest-grossing blockbusters of 2025, ending the year on a high note.
