Tales Celebrates 30 Years

Bandai Namco's Tales Series Celebrates 30 Years with Fanfare

On December 15, 1995, Namco released Tales of Phantasia for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Bandai Namco commemorated the series' 30th anniversary on December 15, 2025, with a special trailer. Japanese players experienced the series nearly a decade before European audiences, who were introduced to Tales of Symphonia on the Nintendo GameCube in 2004. The Tales series distinguished itself with a combat system inspired by fighting games, a characteristic that remains central to the franchise. Reportedly, Enix, then focused on Dragon Quest 6, passed on Tales of Phantasia. Namco embraced the concept and entered the Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) market, dominated by titles like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Bandai Namco expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in the series' 30-year history, acknowledging that fan support makes the production of new games and future milestones possible. To mark this anniversary, Bandai Namco Entertainment shared a video. One fan described Tales of Phantasia as revolutionary, setting a new standard with its innovative approach to genre classics and high production quality.
