Creator of Yakuza, Toshihiro Nagoshi unveils Gang of Dragon

Gang of Dragon Unveiled by Toshihiro Nagoshi at The Game Awards 2025 - Action-packed Urban Epic Set in Kabukicho with Korean Protagonist Shin Jiseong

Toshihiro Nagoshi, creator of the Yakuza series (later titled Like A Dragon), revealed his first game since leaving Sega to found Nagoshi Studio in partnership with NetEase Games. Nagoshi departed Sega in 2021 after 32 years and established Nagoshi Studio in 2022. At The Game Awards 2025, Nagoshi Studio announced its first project, Gang of Dragon. The game's themes and setting strongly echo Nagoshi's previous work. The action unfolds in Kabukicho, the Shinjuku, Tokyo district that served as the model for Kamurocho in the Yakuza series for two decades. A key difference is that Gang of Dragon features a Korean protagonist, Shin Jiseong, portrayed by Ma Dongseok (Don Lee, Invasion Zombie). Ji-seong is a high-ranking member of a Korean crime syndicate operating in Kabukicho. The Gang of Dragon trailer, also revealed at The Game Awards, showcased urban action sequences and a combat system that blends hand-to-hand fighting, katana use, and firearms. According to Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards, all footage was created using in-engine graphics. The trailer opens with a fight scene in which Lee's character is stabbed and takes brutal damage, yet appears unharmed as he walks under the Kabukicho sign.
